ERT’s Summer School offers an insight into what training to be an actor is really like by working with professional theatre-makers and directors, in a real theatre spaceThese workshops and masterclasses for aspiring actors aged 14-21, looking to be challenged, are designed to hone physical, creative and vocal skills.

In order to celebrate the return of ERT’s much-loved summer school, 2021 brings a new and exciting focus to the course: a performance of Behind Closed Doors written by Jenny Shen and Andy Johnson.

Led by writer, director and drama teacher Andy Johnson, who has taught at East 15, Mountview, Middlesex University and the University of Nevada, and is currently Director-in-Residence at Hurtwood House, Surrey. Andy has assisted more than 400 people get into top drama schools including: RADA, LAMDA, Bristol, Guildhall and Mountview. Students will experience workshops and rehearsals with highly experienced industry professionals and drama coaches including our very own Adrian Rawlins!

Funded Places

Places on the course are currently £75.00 each but we have 7 fully funded places available (including travel expenses) for individuals thanks to the I Am Fund, W A Horncastle Charitable Trust and The Godber Theatre Foundation.

ERT Youth Ambassadors

Selected directly from the summer schools, ERT will invite 4-6 young people to become ERT Youth Ambassadors, an opportunity also funded by the I Am Fund. Alongside gaining free access to in-house productions for the remainder of the year, ambassadors will take part in 2 free one-day workshops, focusing on the creative, technical and management sides of working in theatreThey will also get the chance to chat to our staff and Board of Directors and provide input for our future direction as an organisation!
