Frances Kelly – From San Gabriel to Seville & Other Journeys
A series of painted and collaged travellers tales documented on found paper bags.
These images create recovered views that use a sense of memory, imagination and traces of places and experiences, onto deconstructed bags.
Using whatever medium and paints that come to hand the pieces continue to evolve and are enhanced by their free paper backgrounds. The freedom (from the carefully made marks often used on pristine white paper) allows for inspiration with that ‘sense of memory’ to convey the journey and the place, wherever it takes you. Frances Kelly graduated from Central St Martins and gained her MA in Printmaking from Bradford College. After a career in Graphic Design and Illustration, she taught Printmaking, Design and Fine Art.
