Landscape through the Seasons”

Peter Ainsworth moved to the East Riding in 2019 after a busy academic career at Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield Universities teaching and researching modern and medieval French literature, history and culture. The move revived a strong desire to paint which had fallen largely into abeyance due to work and family commitments.

Peter lives in Brough but paints at Calf House Studios just outside Bishop Burton. Working mostly in soft pastels, he enjoys exploring how particular landscape subjects change under different weather conditions across the seasons. The East Riding, Humberside and the Yorkshire Wolds provide particular inspiration; he has also painted subjects in NE Derbyshire and the Fens.

Peter has given demonstrations and led workshops for Hornsea Art Society, Driffield Art Club, Elloughton Art Group, Beverley Art Club, Vale of Pickering Art Group and the Wolds and Riverbank Countryside Society, Welton.

A full member of East Riding Artists, Peter has had two solo exhibitions at Burton Constable Hall; he has also exhibited at The Ropewalk Gallery, Barton-upon-Humber, and (with ERA) at the Brynmor Jones Library, Selby Abbey, Beverley Minster and Nunnington Hall.
