Work With Us

East Riding Theatre is a 200-seat venue in Beverley, East Yorkshire. The Theatre has been operating since 2014 and features a vibrant programme of drama, music, comedy and spoken word alongside several in-house productions.

In 2023 we programmed over 150 shows, and with our 2024 programme we have continued to increase the number of performances even further.

We are recruiting new Trustees

East Riding Theatre are looking for new Trustees to contribute to supporting and developing a successful, professional theatre.

We are particularly looking for individuals with experience in fundraising, human resources, marketing/communications, running a theatre/arts venue, IT, technical production and premises management.

Who we are

The mission of ERT is to provide high-quality entertainment that is accessible to all and to introduce performing arts to new audiences. ERT opened in December 2014 and has had great success in presenting high-quality, professionally produced performances. By June 2024, activity had returned to pre-pandemic levels and ERT is now making a surplus. The theatre is a key centre for the performing arts in East Yorkshire and has been recognised by the Theatres Trust as “a valued and important cultural and social asset for Beverley… it provides local people with access to theatre and the arts, offering opportunities for participation and engagement. It produces its own work and has a mixed programme of theatre, live music, comedy, poetry, and other functions.”

What we do

The Board has overall authority and responsibility for the governance, financial health and strategic direction of ERT. It also has the responsibility for ensuring that the organisation is fully compliant with all relevant legislation. Day-to-day management is delegated to the Theatre Manager, who in turn is supported by a small team of salaried staff and approximately 140 amazing volunteers.

The role

Collectively the Trustees form the Board of ERT, setting the strategic direction for the charity and providing appropriate governance. We are looking for new Trustees who have the aptitude, strategic vision and ability to guide the theatre in the coming years. Candidates should understand and share the positive, welcoming ethos of the theatre. They should be willing to attend 6-8 Board meetings a year and also be prepared to serve on one or more Working Group and attend additional meetings, where necessary. Board meetings take place in Beverley, usually on Fridays. We are a small charity, and candidates would ideally get involved in volunteering, a proportion of which takes place in the evenings.

In addition, we are seeking candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

· Human Resources

· Fundraising

· Marketing/Communications

· Experience of running a theatre or arts venue

· IT/technical production

· Premises management

Next steps If you are interested in applying to be a Trustee, please contact boardsecretary@eastridingtheatre.co.uk in the first instance. A pack containing an application form and further details will be provided. In addition to the application form, you should submit a CV (maximum two sides of A4) together with a covering letter (maximum 2 sides of A4) setting out what you can offer to ERT and why you think you are suitable for the role.

We would like to hear from anyone with an interest in becoming a Trustee by 16/2/26

ERT believes that diverse and representative Boards strengthen decision making. We will strive to remove the barriers that prevent people from applying to become Trustees. Whilst we do not usually pay expenses to Trustees, financial support to attend meetings would be considered on a case-by-case basis.

ERT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful candidates will be subject to enhanced DBS checks and will be appointed on the basis of satisfactory references.
