We want you to learn more about our amazing volunteers. So… this week our brilliant volunteer Kate is going to tell you a little bit about themself.
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Skipton, North Yorkshire but moved several times as a child to South Yorkshire, later West Yorkshire settling in East Yorkshire.
What is one of your best memories from childhood?
Exploring Europe by car most summers. Long chatty family meals.
What was/is your job?
Often reinvented myself over the years! Qualified as a nurse, midwife and community sister. As the boys started school, retrained as a teacher/lecturer post-16 and higher education, eventually becoming a senior manager before I started working as a consultant for Ofsted.
What is one of your best memories from your working life?
Great team spirit, the privilege of visiting so many educational establishments around the country supporting improvements. The sound of children’s laughter whilst a Trustee at the Children’s Hospice of Wales.
Do you have any hobbies you enjoy?
Reading, classical music, theatre and travel.
What is your favourite song?
‘Duet’ from The Pearl Fisher.
What do you normally do when volunteering your time to the theatre?
Box office.
What is one of your best memories from volunteering with ERT?
Everyone’s friendliness and commitment to providing a diverse range of activities for the community of all ages. Lots of fun and laughter.
