The picture features Alan Barton, President of The Beverley Rotary Club, presenting a cheque for over £1200 to Tom Wilders, from East Riding Theatre, which has enabled the purchase of the new defibrillator

We are pleased to announce that a new defibrillator is now available and operational for use at the theatre in the event of an emergency.

The Rotary Club is an organisation that continues to raise funds for many different good causes. The Beverley Branch have funded he installation if defibrillators in other places and noted that ERT was collecting for a machine. They then approached the theatre and suggested we apply for funding

Using the money that they raised from a variety of events, including a recent Beer festival, they have enabled a machine to be purchassed and located in the foyer at the theatre.

East Riding Theatre is a busy community Theatre presenting around 200 shows per year and we secured this funding to buy a Defibrillator, so that it could be located inside the building in order to assist anyone is the vicinity who suffers a sudden cardiac arrest.  The theatre will cover ongoing maintenance costs.

The theatre is in use throughout the day and the café bar and box office are open from Tuesday to Saturday. It is also close to Beverley town centre, car parks and offices, all of whom would have access to the equipment.

USE OF DEFIBRILLATORS

Using a defibrillator when someone has suffered a sudden cardiac arrest has been shown to significantly improve survival rates.  The American Heart Association estimates that early defibrillation, within the first 3-5 minutes after collapse, can increase survival rates by as much as 60%.
