Meet the volunteers… Pam

11th December 2020

We want you to learn more about our volunteers, so each week we will be sharing a Q&A. Up first is a very special volunteer at ERT called Pam.

Where were you born and raised?
I was born and raised in Batley, West Yorkshire.

What is one of your best memories from childhood?
One of my best memories from childhood is going on holiday to Scarborough every Whitsuntide (beginning of June). Often the weather was miserable and the fog horn was sounding but we still went down to the beach everyday and had a good time!
What was/is your job?
I was a teacher for 37 years which I loved.
My main hobby is watching sport, especially cricket!
What is one of your best memories from your working life?
One of my best memories from teaching is being a Head of Year 7, I organised a Christmas party every year for over 150 pupils. We played traditional games, lots of balloons and the finale of Father Christmas coming in and throwing sweets everywhere and the girls going berserk! Hard work, but such good fun.

Do you have any hobbies you enjoy?
My main hobby is watching sport, especially cricket. I’m a Yorkshire member and have also watched England play overseas in various countries. I also like walking and joined a rock choir last year as I enjoy belting out a song!
What is your favourite song?
My favourite song is ‘The Sound of Silence’ by Simon & Garfunkel. I love their music.
One of my best memories from volunteering at ERT has to be December, 2014 when we opened with A Christmas Carol.
What do you normally do when volunteering your time to the theatre?
At ERT I’m mostly on the box office but I also do front-of-house occasionally too. I really enjoy interacting with the public.

What is one of your best memories from volunteering with ERT?
One of my best memories from volunteering at ERT has to be December, 2014 when we opened with A Christmas Carol. I was on front-of-house and I was lucky enough to see half of the show. I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the show in our lovely little theatre – I paid to see it twice after that!

What has been your favourite ERT production?
It’s difficult to choose a favourite ERT production as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them all. But A Christmas Carol stays in the memory and A Wonderful Life was special too. So uplifting – just what’s needed at Christmas!

And finally, what is your favourite thing about Christmas?
My favourite thing about Christmas, apart from seeing family and friends, is singing carols and listening to the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on Christmas eve. I like the traditions of Christmas.

Thank you for everything you do Pam!
